As Chief Data and AI Officer, Kim leads the vision, strategy, and operations for data analytics and artificial intelligence at NRG. He is passionate about fostering a data-driven culture and ensuring that insights and AI-powered solutions are responsibly integrated into business processes to enhance decision-making, optimize operations, and create a distinct competitive advantage. Kim is committed to helping NRG power the future of North America by driving high-value business outcomes and transforming the customer experience to be smarter, faster, and more empowering.

Prior to his current role, Kim served as Senior Vice President of Information Technology (CIO) at NRG for seven years, where he led the strategy, management, and operations for enterprise technologies, including digital, operations and corporate platforms, infrastructure, analytics architecture, and compliance. Kim has more than 25 years of experience in Information Technology, with a breadth of roles including cybersecurity, critical infrastructure protection, transformation, M&A, agile leadership and training, integration and services management, program and project management, finance, application development, quality assurance, infrastructure systems engineering, and help desk operations.

Previously, Kim served as Vice President of IT for NRG’s former renewables division. In this role, he formed and led the renewables IT team for a 4.6 GW nationwide portfolio. The team developed new data acquisition architecture, highly scaled analytics and business intelligence, and a competitively differentiating operations system integrated into a novel platform.

Kim and his team have been honored with several recognitions, including National CIO of the Year for Large Enterprise in 2022, Forbes CIO Next 2022, and Houston CIO of the Year for Large Enterprise in 2021.

Kim holds a Bachelor of Science degree with Honors in Biology from the University of Houston. He completed the Chief Digital Officer program at the Kellogg School of Management in 2023, with a focus on Data Analytics and Artificial Intelligence. Kim also serves on the Board of Combined Arms.
